Stuffed Puppet Theatre, Neville Tranter um grande mestre do teatro

Im Theater geht es nicht um Verstehen.
Es geht darum, ob man was erfährt, oder was erlebt. Und hinterher versteht man vielleicht was. Heiner Müller
(Theatre is not about understanding. It is about experiencing something. And maybe afterwards you will understand something.)

CUNICULUS

Or

Rabbits are not pleasant, friendly animals. And what about Humans?

The earth lay waste, barren and poisoned. Underneath the surface were holes with entrances to endless tunnels. In this dusky world they lived, with their diseased skin, their unending number of children; there they breathed in their stinking air, there they ate, nibbled, snorted and lay together in copulation.

Now, in this world there lived a man who thought he was a rabbit.

The rabbits feared the LORD who lived outside and no-one could look the LORD in the eyes without suffering immense pain.
And so the man also feared the LORD.

Now, among the rabbits there was Rabbit Mother Emma, the provider of all rabbits.
Every day she went alone outside to gather food for her family. She was the only one who knew how to survive the horrors outside. Every day she saw the LORD eye to eye and every day she returned home with food, but also with terrible wounds.
She could not speak of what she saw, because during one of her foraging trips the LORD had ripped out her tongue.
And so the rabbits worshipped their mother, and so the man also worshipped her.
But the rabbits despised the man, because he was not as they were.

One day the Rabbit Mother Emma felt her end was nearing. The rabbits and the man sat together crying and called: “Who shall bring us food now?” When no-one gave answer they cried out: “But then we will starve to death! Then we shall have to eat our young ones!”
There came no answer.

In CUNICULUS from Stuffed Puppet Theatre, Neville Tranter takes us, together with his strange creations to a dark future, to seek the answers to the still remaining questions.
We will laugh about those silly rabbits, yet after the performance we may understand some things a little bit better.
